“Reading by Listening” program provides a wide variety of recorded reading literature to eligible individuals of all ages. We keep the “Magic of Reading” alive for our clients. This is a FREE service
Beginning the “Reading by Listening” Program is simple. To begin receiving audiobooks, you must fill out the following two forms.
The first shipment of audiobooks is sent to you. Once begun, this service will continue automatically on a monthly basis, supplying you with the number of books requested in your specific areas of interest. You may request specific titles or allow our circulation volunteers to select for you based on your interest.

ELIGIBILITY: Blind, visually impaired, learning disabled or physically disabled individuals who are unable to read conventional print, hold a book or turn pages are eligible.
SIGN-UP PROCEDURE: Contact the BOOKS ALOUD office or go to the website for the Application and Verification of Disability forms. Complete the forms and return them to the office. The Verification of Disability form must be signed by an authorized professional (doctor, nurse, therapist or teacher).
CIRCULATION PROCEDURE: Tapes or CDs will be mailed or delivered automatically each month directly to the client’s home via “Free Matter for Blind or Disabled” SAVE THE MAILER FOR TAPE OR CD RETURN. A return label is provided.
TO RETURN TAPES: Place the tapes in the mailer and close it with heavy tape. Tape the return label to the front of the package. Give the mailer to your postal carrier, take it to the post office or return it to your delivery person. NO POSTAGE IS REQUIRED . If the mailer is torn, contact our office for another one to ensure safe return of the tapes. Tapes may also be returned to any city library.
LOAN PERIOD:Tapes are shipped automatically once per month on the client’s assigned date and are loaned for 30-60 days. Due dates are marked in each shipment.
TO RENEW:Tapes may be renewed by contacting our office by phone
TO RESERVE TITLES:When you enroll, you may request a catalog of available titles. Specific titles may be reserved by contacting the office. If a client has not reserved specific titles, Circulation Volunteers will select titles in the client’s preferred subject categories.
EQUIPMENT:Tapes play on a standard 2-tract cassette player. No special equipment is needed.
